Baseboard and wall heaters need a thermostat that can switch their full current at 120 or 240 volts. The rating is what matters: add up the heaters' watts and divide by the voltage. A 2,000-watt heater on 240 volts draws about 8.3 amps. These thermostats are ordered by their maker-stated maximum load, highest first, so the first picks handle the most heaters.
Check the voltage and poles too. Double-pole models break both live legs of a 240-volt circuit; single-pole models break one. Line voltage can kill, so switch the breaker off and use a licensed electrician if you're unsure.
EIA's 2020 survey counted 7.65 million U.S. homes heated mainly by built-in electric units, each room usually with its own line-voltage thermostat.

How to choose
Add up the watts of every heater the thermostat will control and divide by the voltage; the thermostat's maximum current must be at least that. Then match voltage (120, 208 or 240 V) and poles to the heater's instructions.
Wi-Fi models add schedules and phone control but carry the same load limits. Have an electrician do the work if you're unsure; this is household voltage.
When another list fits better
For furnaces, boilers and heat pumps, use a low-voltage thermostat from the smart or programmable tables.
